Team 8 set a trap.

A trap designed to kill the targets.

You see that blood on the guy’s neck? You see the target trapped in a net with leeches? They’ll be dead in five minutes.

You see that last panel where Kiba says “One down”. Remember how later Kiba wanted to collect more scrolls to lower the number of participants?

Now consider this: Had Team 8 not come across Gaara they’d have likely killed/iincapacitated others.

Look how smug Kiba is. Look at how gentle Hinata is as she’s willing to end the life of others. Neji says she’s too kind. If only he saw her now. Look at Shino, just watching it all unfold without a word.

This is Team 8. Gaara freaked them out by crushing people with his sand. But the real ones to fear is these guys. Gaara’s kill was quick, painless. Gaara himself said he ended his enemies misery quickly. Team 8 don’t give a fuck. Their victims have five minutes of horror to suffer.
